Adaptive Sports Week in Review: Domestic Seasons Take Shape
October 2, 2026
After two weeks dominated by the wheelchair basketball world championships, the focus shifted back to domestic schedules and qualification pathways.
Wheelchair basketball
The NWBA announced its 2026–27 Junior Division regional qualifying tournaments on September 28. These competitions provide Varsity teams with opportunities to earn automatic bids to the Junior National Championship, formally beginning the postseason race for youth programs across the country. The larger storyline is the transition from Team USA’s international campaign—highlighted by the women’s world championship—to an NWBA season running from October through March and April. The 2027 Championship Series is expected to include 10 competitions, nine national championships and approximately 1,800 athletes. NWBA National Championship Series
Adaptive golf
No new USDGA or USGA adaptive championship results were posted this week. The most recent national titles remain the 2026 PING USDGA Championship and July’s U.S. Adaptive Open, so there is no new result to add without recycling earlier coverage. USDGA | USGA Adaptive Open

The USWRA’s 2026–27 club season is moving into tournament play. Its calendar begins with events including Slam on the Sound, followed later in October by Crazy 8’s, the Wrecking Ball, Metal and Muscle, Thunderfest and the Reno Rumble. Results and standings had not yet been posted at publication time. USWRA upcoming events
An October 15 deadline also approaches for teams to place international athletes on their initial rosters. USWRA season deadlines
This is the USWRA version of wheelchair rugby, sometimes called quad rugby—not wheelchair rugby league.
What changed
The NWBA formally established the Junior Division’s regional qualification path, while USWRA moved from preseason registration toward its opening tournament schedule. Adaptive golf remained quiet.
Looking ahead
The next meaningful developments should be early USWRA tournament results and the first NWBA regular-season action. Adaptive-golf coverage will resume when USDGA, USGA or another major U.S. organizer posts a substantive result or announcement.
