The first NWBA adult rankings of the 2026–27 season headline a busy week that also brought a Texas adaptive-golf championship and the start of a major USWRA weekend in Houston.

Wheelchair basketball

The NWBA released its first Adult Division power rankings on October 19, based on rosters, transfers and games played through October 16. The Dallas Wheelchair Mavericks open at No. 1 in Division I, followed by the WASA Marquette Golden Eagles and Mary Free Bed Pacers. The Kansas City Kings lead Division II ahead of Ability360 Wheelchair Suns and Tucson Lobos, while the Charlottesville Cardinals top Division III ahead of the San Antonio ParaSport Spurs and Austin Rec’ers. View the complete NWBA rankings.

The early table gives the season its first national measuring stick. Dallas begins where its championship pedigree suggests, but WASA Marquette’s No. 2 position and San Antonio’s rise to second in Division III are two immediate storylines to track. The NWBA also announced a two-year, $200,000 Craig H. Neilsen Foundation grant on October 20 to expand access, equipment resources and community support for athletes living with traumatic spinal cord injury. See the latest NWBA news.

Adaptive golf

The 2026 Texas Adaptive Golf Championship concluded October 21 at Prairie Lakes Golf Course in Grand Prairie after 36 holes of individual stroke play. The championship featured overall men’s, women’s and senior titles as well as sport-class flights; Drew Rice finished atop the overall men’s board at 2 over. See the official TGA championship page and leaderboard.

No new USDGA or USGA national adaptive championship was completed during the review period, so this week’s golf focus stays on the fresh Texas result rather than recycling summer news. The Texas event also counted within the broader adaptive-golf competitive structure and used U.S. Adaptive Golf Alliance sport classifications. Wheelchair rugby

USWRA competition shifts to Houston this weekend for the Metal and Muscle tournament at the George R. Brown Convention Center. Houston Parks and Recreation is hosting a 10-to-12-team Division I–II field, with play listed for October 23–24. Results were not posted by Friday morning, making the field—not an unverified winner—the current story. Follow the official USWRA event listing.

This is USWRA wheelchair rugby, also known as quad rugby, and is separate from wheelchair rugby league.

What changed

Since last week, NWBA’s adult season moved from a waiting period to a defined national hierarchy; the Texas Adaptive Golf Championship produced a new 2026 result; and USWRA moved from a quiet week into an active Houston tournament weekend.

Looking ahead

Next week’s recap will look for confirmed Metal and Muscle results, any movement behind the NWBA’s first rankings, and fresh USDGA, USGA or regional adaptive-golf announcements. The next scheduled NWBA adult rankings are due in November.
